Default Cholesterol facts

You should get your lipid profile checked if your total cholesterol level is more than 200 mgs/100 ml of blood.
Normal level of cholesterol is 150-240 mgs/100ml of blood, more than 240 is considered high and you need to think seriously for a health check up. 200-240 is considered high normal.
Hope this info will be useful to many.

Cholesterol is very important indicator of health status of an individual and we all should guard against increasing our blood cholesterol. Some of the foods that contains high cholesterol are eggs, red meat (pork, beef, mutton etc.), animal fats etc. Cholesterol is high in foods of animalorigin and low in vegetables.

High cholesterol in blood is the main cause of atherosclerosis in the arteries (mainly in heart and brain) which leads to stroke and heart attacks. The cholesterol get deposited on the walls of the arteries and cause thickening of the arterial wall and narrowing of blood vessel which can not transport enough blood and oxygen.

Our daily requirement of cholesterol (an essential nutrient) is about 1 gram, but we do not need any cholesterol from outside source (food) as human body can synthesize the required amount. Any extra cholesterol from food may be deposited in the arteries, if it is more than 1 gram per day.
So stay away from cholesterol.

We all know about cholesterol as the culprit of many health problems, particularly cardiovascular problems. But many of us do not know that cholesterol is also very much essential for human health as it is precursor to many essential hormones.
